The WS Series consists of compact Roots vacuum booster pumps designed for high pumping capacity at low inlet pressures. Two synchronized, non-contact rotors provide efficient gas transport, while an integrated bypass valve automatically limits excessive differential pressure and protects the pump against overload. The bypass design also allows the booster and backing pump to start together in properly configured vacuum systems, helping shorten evacuation time and simplify system operation. With compact construction, low vibration, low noise and relatively low power consumption, the WS Series is well suited for demanding industrial vacuum systems. Standard models are available in cast-iron construction, with optional full 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel corrosion-resistant versions for compatible process applications.
Working Principle
Two synchronized figure-eight-shaped rotors rotate in opposite directions inside the pump housing without contacting each other or the chamber wall. Gas entering the inlet is trapped between the rotors and housing and transported toward the discharge side. An integrated bypass valve connects the discharge side to the inlet side. When the differential pressure across the booster exceeds the specified limit, the bypass valve opens automatically and recirculates part of the gas back to the inlet, reducing the load on both the Roots booster and the backing pump. As system pressure decreases, the bypass valve progressively closes and the booster delivers its full pumping capacity. This design allows the WS booster and backing pump to start together in properly configured vacuum systems while providing automatic overload protection.
Key Features
Corrosion-Resistant Options
For demanding chemical and process applications, WS Series Roots vacuum boosters can be supplied in full 304 stainless steel or 316 stainless steel configurations. Material selection can be matched to the process medium and operating conditions.
*Performance values are based on factory test conditions and may vary depending on the backing pump and vacuum-system configuration.
*WS Series Roots vacuum boosters are designed to operate with a suitable backing pump. Standard models use natural air cooling.
