Roots Vacuum Pump Units
Custom-Engineered Roots Booster Vacuum Systems
System Overview
Zhongtian Roots Vacuum Pump Units are custom-engineered vacuum systems combining Roots vacuum boosters with suitable backing pumps and auxiliary equipment.
The Roots booster provides high pumping speed in the low- and medium-vacuum range, while the backing pump establishes fore-vacuum and handles final gas compression and discharge. For a comparison of available booster series and verified displacement data, see our Roots vacuum booster range.
Depending on the process, systems can be configured with dry screw, liquid ring, oil-free reciprocating or rotary vane backing pumps, together with condensers, separators, filtration, cooling and automatic control equipment.
Each system is configured according to the required pumping speed, operating pressure, gas composition, vapour load and automation requirements.
Key System Capabilities
How the System Works
The operating principle of a Roots vacuum unit is based on staged vacuum generation and pressure matching.
During start-up, the backing pump first evacuates the system from atmospheric pressure and establishes the required fore-vacuum.
Once the system pressure reaches the permitted operating range for the Roots booster, the booster is started or brought into active operation according to the selected control logic.
The Roots booster then handles a large volume of low-pressure gas and delivers it to the backing pump. The backing pump further compresses the gas and discharges it from the system. By combining high pumping speed from the Roots stage with the compression capability of the backing pump, the system can maintain substantially higher pumping performance in the target pressure range than the backing pump operating alone.
Start-Up & Pressure Control
The Roots booster must operate within its allowable differential-pressure and fore-vacuum limits. Depending on the system design, start-up can be controlled by:
- Pressure Switch
- Vacuum Gauge
- PLC Logic
- Variable-Frequency Drive
- Bypass Valve
- Differential-Pressure Control
For conventional Roots boosters, the backing pump normally establishes fore-vacuum before the booster enters normal operation. For bypass-equipped Roots models, the system can be configured for simplified start-up under higher inlet-pressure conditions, subject to the pump design and operating limits.
Backing Pump Options
Zhongtian can configure Roots vacuum units with different backing-pump technologies according to the process gas, vapour load and application requirements.
Roots + Dry Screw
JZJG SeriesFor oil-free process vacuum and cleaner gas handling. Suitable for applications where lubricating oil in the gas path is undesirable.
Roots + Liquid Ring
JZJS SeriesFor wet gases, condensable vapours and applications where seal-liquid operation is acceptable. Widely used in chemical and pharmaceutical processes.
Roots + Oil-Free Reciprocating
JZJWLW SeriesFor process applications requiring an oil-free gas-contacting pumping cylinder. Suitable for compatible chemical and solvent-recovery applications.
Roots + Rotary Vane
For compatible clean and dry industrial vacuum applications where oil-sealed backing is acceptable.
